Smallford is a lovely industrial-chic farm shop and café located on the edge of St. Albans. It is a family business dating back to 1957 that believes in celebrating premium quality, passionate, and local artisan producers including local based Handmade in Harpenden, Twist Teas, Farr Brew, Mad Squirrel and Potters Crouch. All of the products that they stock have been hand-picked and tested, providing a unique offering in Hertfordshire.
Their onsite nursery grows a variety of specialised produce including tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, and more recently aubergines and chillies. The produce is hand-picked, carefully selected and refreshed everyday – less than 100m away from the farm shop. This is the freshest assortment of vegetables and salad that you will find!
As well as being able to buy fresh home-grown produce, you will find a large selection of artisanal products in their food hall. There is also a tempting deli counter with a selection of cured meats, cheese, pastries, bread and confectionary. In the shop you will also find Smallford’s own ‘Cannatella & Colletti’ - authentic gourmet sauces inspired by original Italian recipes and the food that this second-generation family love to eat. The sauces contain fresh ingredients grown and harvested on-site and are made using traditional Sicilian recipes.
Additionally, Smallford Farm Shop sells a unique range of home and giftware as well as boasting a large selection of specialist, organic and vegan wines.
The Italian Kitchen, which is new to Smallford, offers delicious food from the family’s Italian heritage. Here you will find such delights as Burrata Salad, hand-made Ravioli alla Norma and the classic Tiramisu dessert. The menu and handcrafted dishes truly showcase the farm shop offerings and homegrown produce. Smallford use their shop as their larder and all of their dishes contain ingredients grown in their greenhouses next door.

The Italian kitchen is also home to classic brunch favourites such as smashed avocado on toast, Eggs Benedict, Fish and Chips and Smallford’s Burger of the week along with delicious cakes made by local company Heaven Is A Cupcake.
With plenty of free parking and a large dog friendly outside terrace, Smallford is the perfect place to stock up your pantry with local goods, enjoy a delicious meal or snack and have a catch up over a cup of coffee or tea, a freshly made smoothie or even a glass or two of wine.
