Megan’s meets St. Albans

Megan’s, St. Albans

Megan’s is a much-loved, independent, dog-friendly spot that everyone wants in their neighbourhood. In 2002 it opened in Chelsea as a charming little antiques shop that served tea and pastries. Luckily for us, they have since grown, with St. Albans being their first venture outside of London.

Megan’s pride themselves on their food; using high quality ingredients to create fresh, in-house cooking made by their team of wonderful chefs from all over the world. The menu features twists on breakfast classics like Eggs Benedict with Parma ham and sourdough, which is voted ‘Best in London’ by the Evening Standard. If you’re opting for something healthier, they have oat and chia vegan pancakes, avocado on toast and homemade granola on the menu.

At lunch, there is a deli bar with salads, toasties and protein options. From lunch onwards, you can enjoy sharing plates, mezzes, and their posh kebabs. If you make it to dessert, you can opt for their naughty half-baked cookie dough, stuffed with gooey nutella and topped with salted caramel ice cream and pistachios.

Megan’s caters for all. Think groups of friends relaxing by the fire for a catch up over coffee and cake, and work-from-homers chilling on their laptops in the day. Children enjoying high tea, pooches wrapped up in a bed and romantic evening meals with cocktails.

We were welcomed by Megan’s for breakfast at their soft launch prior to their opening, and have since returned several times. The food, ambience, décor and service were all spot on. They make a smashing avocado (pun intended) on 7 seeded organic sourdough toast, with omega seeds and chilli. We highly recommend having a side of garlic mushrooms which are to die for. We also sampled the delightful Mediterranean dish Shakshouka which consists of two baked eggs, tomato, pepper and celery.

Megan’s is described by Timeout as ‘filthily delicious food in a magical setting’ and they certainly weren’t wrong.
